The Christmas gift I can't stop telling people about

I've Found the Jewellery I'm Giving Everyone This Christmas

5 reasons I'll never buy a gift set again

It Started Over a Coffee

I'd given up on cheap jewellery. Every "gold" necklace I bought for under €50 turned my neck green within a month, and I'd started to think it was just my skin.

Then a friend turned up to coffee wearing this tiny gold necklace. Four little hearts that close into a clover. I asked where it was from, fully expecting her to say Weir's. She said Helga & Helena, and that she'd been sleeping and showering in it for weeks.

I ordered one that night. Then I ordered four more. Here's why.

1. It Actually Doesn't Go Green

It was never my skin. It was the metal. Most cheap jewellery is a thin coat of gold over brass, and brass is mostly copper. One shower too many and the copper comes through.

Helga & Helena use 316L stainless steel, nickel-free, with 18k gold bonded to the steel. I've worn mine through showers, the gym and perfume every morning. Still gold. And if it ever changes colour, they replace it. Lifetime colour warranty.

2. Cheaper Than a Gift Set, and She'll Actually Keep It

I used to spend €40 to €50 on a gift set in Arnotts that was half cardboard. The Lucky Heart is €34.95. No cardboard, no tissue paper, nothing that ends up in the recycling on the 26th.

The Roses are gone by Stephen's Day. This is still on her neck next Christmas.

3. No More Wrapping Stress

I'm hopeless at wrapping. Mine always look like they were wrapped in the car, because they usually were.

This comes in a matte black box with the gold Helga & Helena logo on the lid. Put a card on top and that's it. I couldn't wait until Christmas, so I gave my mam hers last Sunday. She thought I'd been into a jewellery shop on Grafton Street. I let her believe it.

4. Every Woman on My List Is Getting the Same Thing

My mam, my sister, my best friend, my mother-in-law. They're all getting the Lucky Heart. Nobody will ever compare notes, and it suits every age.

My mam hasn't taken hers off since Sunday, and my sister will be wearing hers to the gym by Stephen's Day.

5. Early Black Friday: Buy 2, Get the Velvet Pouch Free

This is the bit that made me order more. Buy any two pieces and you get their velvet travel jewellery pouch free, normally €27.95. So I bought two, kept one for myself, and the pouch is going to my sister because she loses everything.

Order two and delivery is free, it ships from the EU so there's no customs bill at the door, and you get 30 days to return it. Christmas shopping, sorted before December.
